180-day courses

Every course is a full 180-day school year. Kindergarten to grade 5 study Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Grades 6–8 study English, Pre-Algebra & Algebra, Life & Physical Science and History. High school courses are named for the class, like Algebra 1, Biology and U.S. History, plus SAT® and ACT® prep.

Unit tests

Every unit ends with a test of at least 15 questions. Kids can retake a test as often as they need, and the scores go into your reports.

Check-up and study plan

A 10-minute check-up per subject finds which units your child already knows. The plan then puts the units that need work first and lets them skip ahead where they're strong. Free for every family.

Records and reports for your homeschool

KidUniversity records lessons, test scores and learning days for each child as they work. You can print it, export it and add your own entries.

  • Parent reports

For each child: lessons this week, days learning, minutes learned, scores by subject, books finished and lessons worth another look. A short progress email arrives every Sunday, and you can turn it off. Free for every family.

  • A printable homeschool report New

A report for each child and school year, with the courses studied, units and lessons finished, average unit-test scores, check-ups, days and hours. It ends with a line for a parent or teacher's signature. Print it or save it as a PDF.

  • Hours and attendance log New

Time in the app is counted for you, day by day. Add your own entries for learning away from the screen, like a field trip or a library visit, and set a goal for days in the school year. Download the log as a CSV file for your own records.

Screen time on your terms New

Set the rules for each child in the Grown-ups area, behind a parental gate.

A daily limit

Choose from 15 minutes to 2 hours a day. When the time is up, Professor Hoot says goodbye for the day. You can give extra time whenever you like.

Finish today's plan first

Turn this on and games and videos wait until today's plan is done: one lesson in each subject on the plan.

Check your state's homeschool rules

Homeschool requirements are set by each state and vary a lot: required subjects, days or hours of instruction, record keeping, notices, tests and evaluations.

KidUniversity gives you a curriculum, test scores and records you can print or export. It doesn't decide whether those meet your state's rules, and it isn't legal advice. Please check your state's homeschool laws, or your state's department of education, before relying on any record.

Homeschool questions

Can I use it as my full curriculum?

Many families can. Every grade has full-year courses in the core subjects, 180 school days each, with unit tests: Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies in kindergarten through grade 5; English, math, science and history in grades 6–12. Some things are best done away from the screen, though. Kids practice writing with short answers in the app, so we suggest regular writing on paper as well. Discussions, art, music, physical education and hands-on projects aren't part of the app. Check which subjects your state requires.

Does it track hours for my state?

The hours and attendance log counts each child's time in the app by day. You can add your own entries for learning away from the screen and set a goal for days in the school year. You can print a homeschool report or download the log as a CSV file. Whether these records meet your state's requirements depends on your state, so please check its homeschool rules.

Is it Common Core aligned?

We've mapped our math and English courses for kindergarten through grade 8 to the Common Core State Standards and published the results for every grade. In math, 227 of the 229 standards are taught in our lessons and the other 2 are partly covered. In English language arts, reading, grammar and vocabulary are covered well. Writing whole essays and speaking and listening can only be partly practiced in an app, so we show those honestly as partly covered. See the standards by grade.

How much does it cost?

Unit 1 of every course, the check-up and parent reports are free, with no credit card. KidUniversity Plus is $7.99 a month on the web, or $59.99/year, for the whole family, however many children you have. New subscribers on the web get a 1-week free trial. See pricing.

Can I see what my child got wrong?

Yes. The report lists lessons worth another look, and "My check-up answers" shows each check-up question with your child's answer. Missed questions go into "Practice what I missed". Reading the parent report.

Does it work in Spanish?

Yes. Menus, Professor Hoot's voice and Ask Hoot's answers switch to Spanish any time. Lessons are being translated course by course, and a lesson that isn't translated yet shows in English. Visit KidUniversity in Spanish.
