About KidUniversity
KidUniversity is a complete learning app for kids and teens, from kindergarten through 12th grade, plus SAT and ACT prep, in English and Spanish.
What KidUniversity is
KidUniversity is a complete learning app for kids and teens, from kindergarten through 12th grade, plus SAT and ACT prep, in English and Spanish. EarlyU (K–6: Learn. Play. Grow.) and TeenU (7–12: Grow. Build. Become.) give each child a full school year of short lessons, unit tests, games, read-aloud books and videos. A quick check-up finds where your child is and builds a study plan, and Professor Hoot explains missed questions step by step.
Kids can also snap a photo of their homework: Hoot helps them understand it and work through each problem, without handing over the answers.
Parents get progress reports and homeschool records. There are no ads and no tracking. Unit 1 of every course is free forever, and Plus is $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year for the whole family. See pricing.
What makes KidUniversity different
- A full school year, not a few worksheets. Every course is a 180-day year of short lessons, review days and unit tests, from kindergarten to grade 12, with SAT® and ACT® prep for high schoolers.
- Homework help that teaches, not answers. With My Schoolwork, a child photographs homework or a test. Professor Hoot reads it, explains the ideas step by step, then makes a short practice quiz on the same skills. Hoot never fills in the homework answers. It stays off until a parent turns it on with email consent, and photos are deleted right after Hoot reads them by default, or within 30 days at most.
- Starts where your child is. A check-up of about 10 minutes per subject builds a study plan: practice the units they missed first, and skip ahead where they're already strong.
- English and Spanish. Switch the screens, Professor Hoot's voice and Ask Hoot's answers any time, and read picture books in Spanish.
- More than lessons. A 2,700+ book read-aloud library, Watch & Learn videos and learning games, all tied to the grade.
- Made for parents, too. Progress reports, a weekly email, and homeschool tools: a printable report and an hours and attendance log.
- One plan for the whole family. Every child is included. No ads, no tracking, and nothing for kids to buy.

How it's made
The curriculum
The lessons, reading passages and practice questions are written for KidUniversity. Math and science follow the topic order of well-known open curricula, and we publish how our math, reading and writing compare with the Common Core standards, including where we fall short. You can see every unit and lesson on the grade pages.
Built on learning research
KidUniversity is designed around well-established learning research: a check-up before practice, review of earlier lessons and missed questions, worked examples, step-by-step feedback and homework help that teaches instead of giving answers. We haven't yet studied KidUniversity's own results, and we say so. Our research shows the studies behind each part, our honest limits, our logic model and our study plan.
Books and videos
The read-aloud library mixes original KidUniversity stories, public-domain classics and openly licensed picture books, each with its credit. Watch & Learn has animated lessons with Professor Hoot and real videos from sources like NASA and the National Park Service.
Professor Hoot's AI help, with a parent's consent
Ask Hoot and My Schoolwork use an AI (Claude, by Anthropic) to explain things in kid-friendly words. Both stay off until a parent gives permission by email, parents can read and delete everything, and the AI never receives a child's name. Answers can make mistakes, so kids can report any answer. More about Ask Hoot.
Privacy first
We collect only what the app needs to work, show no ads, use no tracking or third-party analytics, and sell nothing. A parent sets up and controls the account. Read the privacy policy.
