Homework help that teaches the steps, not the answers

In KidUniversity, a child can type a school question in Ask Hoot, or upload a photo of a worksheet in My Schoolwork, and Professor Hoot explains the steps instead of just giving the answer. Both stay off until a parent gives permission by email, and parents can read every question and upload. Hoot's answers are written by AI and can make mistakes, so every answer has a Report button.

Off until you say yes: Ask Hoot and My Schoolwork turn on only after a parent gives permission by email, for each child and each feature.

What you get

Help from Professor Hoot that works together with the lessons, in English or Spanish.

Ask Hoot and Ask Anything

Your child types a school question, such as how to solve a math problem, and Hoot explains it step by step in kid-friendly words.

My Schoolwork

Your child uploads a photo or PDF of a worksheet, homework, a test or notes. Hoot helps them understand it without handing over the answers, matches it to KidUniversity lessons and offers a practice quiz.

Missed skills go into the plan

My Schoolwork adds the skills your child missed to their study plan, so they can practice them in the lessons.

How it works

Ask Hoot and My Schoolwork send what a child types or uploads to an AI service, so a parent turns them on first.

  1. Ask to turn it on

In Grown-ups, choose the feature for a child and re-enter your account password.

  2. Confirm by email

We email you a notice explaining what the feature collects and why, with a link that works once, for 7 days. Nothing is collected until you confirm.

  3. Your child asks or uploads

Hoot explains the steps and never just gives the answer. Missed skills from schoolwork go into the study plan.

  4. You see everything

Read every question, answer and upload in Grown-ups, delete any of them, or take back permission at any time.

Privacy and safety

  • Parent permission first (COPPA)

Both features stay off until a parent gives permission by email, separately for each child and each feature. About 24 hours later a second email confirms it, with a one-click link to take it back.

  • No names sent

Questions are sent without your child's name, and anything that looks like an email address or phone number is blanked out. Hoot is told never to ask for personal information.

  • Photos don't stay

Schoolwork photos are deleted after 30 days at most, or right after Hoot reads them if you choose that in Grown-ups. New accounts start with that setting on.

  • A Report button on every answer

Hoot's answers are written by AI and are usually right, but they can make mistakes. A 🚩 Report button on each answer lets a grown-up check it.

Homework help questions

Does Hoot just give my child the answers?

No. Hoot explains the steps and never just gives the answer. With My Schoolwork, Hoot helps your child understand the worksheet without handing over the answers.

How do I turn on Ask Hoot or My Schoolwork?

In Grown-ups, choose Turn on for a child and re-enter your password. We email you a notice with a link that works once, for 7 days. Open it and confirm, and the feature turns on for that child.

How long are schoolwork photos kept?

30 days at most, then they're deleted automatically. If "Delete photos right after Hoot reads them" is on in Grown-ups, each photo is deleted as soon as Hoot has read it; new accounts start with it on. Ask Hoot chats and schoolwork notes are deleted after 90 days.

Can Hoot make mistakes?

Can I see what my child asked?

Yes. You can read every question and answer and every schoolwork upload in Grown-ups, and delete any of them at any time.

How many questions can my child ask?

Up to 10 questions a day on the free plan, 25 with monthly KidUniversity Plus, and unlimited with yearly Plus. See pricing.
